Area of Research: My research interests focus on social development, particularly adolescent and childhood aggression. I am most interested in how peers are involved in bullying and aggression in children and adolescents. I have explored perceptions of blame in high school aggression, and how attitudes and beliefs about bullying are related to these perceptions of blame. Currently, I am examining peer involvement in adolescent bullying and what roles they take on in bullying situations. I am interested in how individual differences relate to the different roles individuals adopt and why. Further, I am exploring how interventions specifically targeting peers (or bystanders) are influencing adolescents in different roles. I am also exploring how peers are involved in cyberbullying, and whether they take on similar roles in real-world (traditional) bullying. I have been involved in several other research projects within the Bully Lab and with PREVNet, focusing on interventions in schools, and on child and adolescent relationships and bullying.
Future plans: I really enjoy exploring research questions and hope to continue working within a research field, exploring how social relationships change over development, especially in terms of anti-social behaviour such as bullying and aggression, and especially how these behaviours change in adolescence. I would like to further explore the impact of witnessing bullying as a bystander, and to further explore how attitudes and beliefs about bullying and aggression develop in peers. At some point, I would also like to explore workplace bullying.
Interests: Outside of my research interests, I enjoy home design and renovations, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing at the cottage.

B.A. Honours Psychology, '05, Dalhousie University

Area of Research: My dissertation is exploring bullying and victimization from a positive youth development perspective. I am interested in examining the efficacy of promoting positive individual characteristics (e.g., responsibility, empathy, respect), rather than targeting negative behaviors, in preventing or reducing bullying and victimization in school children. In order to explore this question, I will be conducting a comprehensive program evaluation of a school-based character education program to evaluate its behavioral and mental health effects on participating children.
Future Plans: I hope to one day work with children and adolescents with attachment and trauma issues, as well as their families. I would also love to continue teaching.
Interests: My newest hobby is home renovation, wish me luck!

Born: Glovertown, Newfoundland
Undergrad Degree:
B.Sc. (Hons.) Psychology, ’03, Memorial University of Newfoundland
Graduate studies:
Ph.D. 3 ongoing (Clinical Psychology), Queen's University
Area of Research: I am particularly interested in social aggression and social bullying. More specifically, I am interested in this form of aggression in girls. In addition, I am interested in cyberbullying in adolescents. My current project examines the perceived harmfulness of cyberbullying and other forms of bullying. This project also examines the link between social aggression and cyberbullying. For future projects I would like to examine group dynamics in social bullying interactions or evaluate program(s) that target social aggression.
Future plans: I hope to eventually run a therapy group for children that would give youth an opportunity to practice social skills learned in individual therapy.
Interests: I am interested in play therapy and group therapy. Personally, my interests include baking, hiking, and shopping.
